That Cat

On observation, certainty, and the rejection of the sealed box.

The Problem

Most systems deliver answers from inside a sealed box.

You are told the result.

You are asked to trust it.

The reasoning is hidden. The evidence is inaccessible. The path from input to output is a mystery wrapped in mathematical complexity and proprietary secrecy.

This might be acceptable for recommendations and conveniences. But for decisions that matter — decisions that affect lives, livelihoods, and the fabric of institutions — faith is not enough.

Our Response

We reject the box.

There is no moment where the decision is both unclear and final.

There is no intelligence hidden from observation.

At QGI, we build systems where the act of deciding and the act of explaining are the same thing. You cannot have one without the other. This isn't a feature we add — it's a constraint we design around.

Why "That Cat"

Schrödinger's thought experiment asks us to consider a cat in a sealed box, its fate determined by quantum probability but unknown until observed.

The philosophical puzzle is meant to illustrate the strangeness of quantum mechanics. But it also illustrates something about how most AI systems work today:

The decision happens inside the box.

You only see the outcome.

The process is fundamentally unobservable.

We believe this is unacceptable for systems that make critical decisions. The cat — the decision, the reasoning, the evidence — must be observable. Not after the fact. Not as a reconstruction. But as an inherent part of how the system operates.
